Congratulations to our Key Worker Lindsey for being nominated as Learner of the Year in the Lifetime Learner Achievement Awards 2017, one of only three from the South of England in this national competition! Lindsey has been recognised for her outstanding performance in reaching her level 3 NVQ whilst successfully completing her GCSEs. The overall winner will be announced at a ceremony in London in November. Well done Lindsey!
AGM: Thursday 14th September
The nursery school AGM will take place on Thursday 14th September at the War Memorial Village Hall, Abbotts Ann, at 7.30pm. All parents/carers are encouraged to attend and to sign up to join the committee, without which the nursery cannot run. For information about joining, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or read about the roles here.
Change of Legal Structure
Abbotts Ann Nursery School has recently updated its legal charitable status, from being an unincorporated association to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This provides more security for trustees and broadens the scope of who can join as a member of the organisation and help support the nursery school. As part of this change, the nursery school is now operating as a new charity, registered charity number 1169193. The old charity (1028920) has been closed but details will remain on the Ofsted website to enable access to previous reports.
Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers
We are collecting these vouchers again, which help us to buy equipment for the children. Please drop off any vouchers to nursery any time, or post through the village hall letterbox in an envelope addressed to Abbotts Ann Nursery School. Thank you!
AANS was inspected by Ofsted in January 2017 and achieved a 'Good' rating, matching that awarded at its previous inspection in 2013. The inspector commented that, "Children are confident, independent and sociable. Staff praise and encourage
the children frequently, to increase their confidence and self-esteem." Congratulations to all of our wonderful staff for such a glowing report!
Support the Pre-School Learning Alliance Fair Future Funding Campaign
In April 2017, a new early years funding system will be introduced in England which will see a rise in the overall average funding rates that local authorities receive from central government. However, the government has confirmed that the funding increase has been ‘frontloaded’, meaning that no further increase will be available until the next Parliament. In addition, a quarter of local authorities will see a drop in their funding rates.
With rising business costs - and in particular, the 'national living wage' which is set to increase to £9 per hour in 2020 - we believe that this approach is completely unsustainable, and unfair on early years providers already struggling to stay afloat.
